Education technology company Futurekids has partnered with ePals Inc, experts in Web-based school communication, to offer its communications platform to schools.

eClassNetwork (ECN) allows schools to create internal classroom networks, build school and district communities and reach out to schools across the world. ECN will offer up to 6Mbyte of file sharing and storage, which is expandable for an extra fee, and moderated discussion boards. Spam control and secure chatrooms are also part of the package.

The secure communications platform will also include a Futurekids version of ePALS SchoolMail, a filtered and monitored e-mail program, an e-mail translation engine with 81 language pairs, virus checking for e-mail and attachments, controlled access, private chat rooms, multi-lingual private discussion boards, and access to the ePALS Classroom Exchange international database of 4.4 million students for collaborative learning projects. It will require little or no internal infrastructure or management.

According to Mike Travers, Regional Frachiser for Ireland, the communication platform will be only the first of several new products Futurekids plans to offer.

Futurekids has also allied itself with S4F Technologies, experts in Internet content filtering technology. The company will offer its own version of S4F’s proprietary technology to schools, filtering out adult material and other objectionable material.
