launches inaugural Broadband Awards

Independent broadband price comparison and switching service provider today launched Ireland’s inaugural broadband awards. The broadband awards 2014 will take place later this month and represent the first dedicated industry event designed to specifically recognise the best of the Irish home broadband industry over the past 12 months.

The event, which takes place in Dublin’s Marker Hotel on 27 February, will see the leading providers in the domestic broadband market go head to head to win public recognition accolades across 10 award categories, including Best Innovation, Fastest Broadband, Best Value and Best Customer Service.  The awards ceremony will culminate in the presentation of an overall Best Broadband Provider Award which will recognise the broadband provider in Ireland that has the achieved the highest overall customer ratings across all categories.

Selection of award nominees and winners will be based on a combination of results from a national consumer poll, thousands of customer ratings from the site and an independent judging panel, made up of some of Ireland’s leading broadband and consumer technology journalists.

Eoin Clarke, head of, said:  “Irish households are now faced with greater choice than ever, with an ever increasing range of broadband suppliers and service offerings to choose from.  The broadband awards is set to establish itself as the most authoritative customer awards for the broadband industry in Ireland, and will work to recognise and reward those broadband providers setting the standards over the past 12 months.

“At we are committed to equipping consumers with the right information to make the most informed decisions when it comes to selecting and switching providers.  We are confident that the Broadband Awards will quickly establish itself as an independent and important reference point for benchmarking and celebrating the best in class for the industry.”

Coinciding with today’s launch, has also announced the shortlist of nominations for each of the award categories.  UPC leads the charge with a nomination in each category, followed by Sky with eight nominations and eircom with six.

Fastest Home Broadband: Digiweb, Magnet, UPC

Best Value Home Broadband: Sky, UPC, Vodafone

Best Technical Support: eircom, Sky, UPC

Most Recommended Broadband: Sky, UPC, Vodafone

Best Customer Benefits: eircom, Sky, UPC

Best Broadband Provider: eircom, UPC, Vodafone

Best TV Provider: eircom, Sky, UPC

Best Broadband Innovation: eircom, Sky, UPC
