Irish pay-as-you-go electricity company Pinergy is to become an Xtra-vision retail partner.

From tomorrow, consumers will be able to sign up for Pinergy at Xtra-vision stores and integrated Xtra-vision and HMV stores nationwide. With the new partnership, anyone who signs up with Pinergy will receive a complimentary Xtra-vision Gold Rental Pass, which offers unlimited movie and game rentals for one month.

Pinergy, which is headquartered at NexusUCD, the Industry Partnership Centre at University College Dublin, allows the customer to control their energy spend, with no deposits, no installation fees and no more bills.

Pinergy customers buy credit as they would for a pre-pay mobile phone with a card, and top up using a user ‘budget controller’ keypad, installed in the home.  The keypad displays information detailing actual electricity consumption in real time in both euros and kilowatts, allowing customers to control exactly how much electricity they are using.

Munster and Ireland rugby player Paul O’Connell is a director of Pinergy, and acts as the company’s brand ambassador – as well as using Pinergy in his own home.

Pinergy customers buy credit as they would for a pre-pay mobile phone with their Pinergy card, directly from Pinergy, and Xtra-vision stores.

Enda Gunnell, CEO of Pinergy, said: “Over 10,000 customers have taken control of their electricity costs by signing up to Pinergy, and we are delighted to offer our pay-as-you-go electricity service to Xtra-vision customers across Ireland. Xtra-vision is known and trusted in local communities throughout Ireland, and are as passionate as we are about giving consumers a smart choice when it comes to Energy Costs and Budgeting. By offering Pinergy’s pay-as-you-go service through their vast store network in Ireland, Xtra-vision will be help their customers get rid of those shocking electricity bills, and take control of their energy costs.”
