Airspeed Telecom has announced that it is investing €1.6 million in the development of a cloud ready network for Irish businesses. The provider of wireless telecommunications products has stated that the network will be provided over a high performance and reliable infrastructure by Juniper Networks.

As well as delivering significant benefits over multivendor legacy networks, the network will enable customers with additional security options. Moreover customers will be provided with a scalable bandwidth from 1Mbps to 200Mbps for their needs.

Over the last 12 months €400,000 has been spent developing the network with a further €1.2 million earmarked to support its extended rollout going forward. Included in the development plan are two devised new products, namely AirSpeed Cloud Connection and AirSpeed Resilient Circuit, which were designed for firms with cloud services in mind.

AirSpeed Cloud Connect provides high performance as a scalable bandwidth connection; it guarantees low latency and jitter, built in security and privacy as well as QoS or traffic prioritisation for real time applications. Alternatively AirSpeed Resilient Circuit is a fully redundant back up connection utilising microwave radio and overhead fibre with fail over guarantees to ensure continuity of service in the event of an outage on the customer’s primary connection.

Liam O’Kelly, CEO of AirSpeed Telecom says that the majority of firms want to be in the cloud but are unsure of the best route to take. He argues that, “consideration needs to be given to how companies connect to the cloud. Key concerns include connection, speed, how well their system performs as well as how reliable it is. O’Kelly maintains that, “AirSpeed Telecom has built a really high performance network that gives us excellent control, fast diagnostics, faster delivery of new services that enable us to give business the guarantees it needs when moving to the cloud.”

AirSpeed Telecom will be exhibiting at the upcoming IDC ‘Cloud Computing’ conference on 18 May at the Burlington Hotel.
