UPC is to double its standard entry level broadband speeds for new customers from 25Mb/s to 50Mb and that existing customers on 50Mb/s and 100Mb/s packages would be upgraded to 100Mb/s and 150Mb/s respectively.
The announcement was made at a demonstration in Dublin city of 1.4Gb/s download speeds – over 15 times faster than the highest possible speeds for next generation DSL technology – over its fibre broadband network.
Mark Coan, sales and marketing director, UPC Ireland, said: "Consumer bandwidth requirements continue to grow with the proliferation of devices in homes and the increasing integration of video into the Web… This move re-defines what constitutes the minimum acceptable broadband speed to the Irish market and clearly underlines our unique track record of sustained broadband innovation."
