IBM’s NetVista S42 is a desktop computer designed to save space without compromising performance. It takes up to 64 per cent less space than traditional IBM desktops – making it suitable for businesses of all sizes where space is at a premium, particularly banks, retail outlets, schools, medical offices and small businesses.

The S42 includes options for wireless connectivity and simplified data migration and manageability.

Its dimensions are just 15.5cm  wide by 34.5cm deep by 8.4cm high and so it can be tucked more easily into tight office spaces. Despite this small size, the S42 comes standard with performance features such as an Intel Pentium 4 processor, Double Data Rate (DDR) memory up to 2Gbyte maximum, Integrated Intel Ethernet, Intel Extreme integrated graphics, four USB 2.0 ports in front with two more in back, and hard disk drives up to 40Gbyte, comprising high-speed 7200 rpm disks.

The NetVista S42 is also enabled for ImageUltra – IBM’s image management and data migration software. It also offers two full-height PCI slots and three bays, an industry-standard optical drive and a diskette drive. These features allow customisation and easy upgrading.

Wi-Fi certified wireless options available for the S42 include the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PCI Adapter, the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN Access Point 500 and the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN Gateway. The S42 can also connect through a PRO/1000 T Desktop Adapter by Intel. Another option for connecting wirelessly with the NetVista S42 is the Bluetooth UltraPort Module, which provides for a short-range (up to 10m in an open space) wireless Personal Area Network (PAN) or a device to device connectivity solution which is great for work group/meeting collaboration.

The S42 starts at EUR968 (ex-VAT).
