New social media platform eYou aims to serve as a European alternative to tech giants

Platform includes an AI-powered fact-checking tool to combat disinformation and foster trust in online discussions

A new social media platform has been launched specifically targeting European users. eYou was developed by a Romanian start-up. EYou promises transparency and user control over their feeds, setting it apart from existing platforms that rely on algorithms which fuel distraction and echo chambers. The platform highlights fact-checking and data privacy as its key features.

The founders of eYou, France’s Grégoire Vigroux and Mauritius-born Jasseem Allybokus, have raised €300,000 in pre-seed funding to bring the project to life. The downloadable app features an AI-powered fact-checking tool that allows users to verify information in real time by adding sources to posts. This function is intended to fight disinformation and build trust in online debates.

In addition, eYou underlines its commitment to protecting user data under EU privacy regulations. The company argues that many existing social media platforms fail to adequately safeguard user data, leaving individuals in the dark about how their information is used or potentially influenced by foreign entities.

Before the launch, eYou positioned itself as a necessary European alternative in the social media landscape, arguing that European internet users deserve access to homegrown platforms. The company declared confidently: “It is time for a European alternative.”
