Microsoft has launched a localised version of its Internet portal specifically for the Irish market. The new site at MSN.ie launched at the beginning of October and has content from a number local Microsoft partners, including: Esat BT, which provides a home phone and Internet channel; VHI, which provides health tips and advice; Golden Pages for a business directory; and RTE for news and
sport. Dating services are also provided through the portal from Match.com.

According to Geoff Sutton, general manager for MSN Europe, ‘Irish users are looking for Irish content’ and that this motivated the local launch. Other services offered on the site include Irish .ie Hotmail and instant messenger services. From November 16th, all Irish Hotmail users will be able to switch their e-mail addresses to the .ie domain.
