    Its Time for Semi-Automated Processes to Grow Up.

    In the past many organisations used the tools they had at hand to automate their business processes. Now that they have stabilised and become critical to running the business, its time to fully automate and industrialise them.

    When starting out the business used their Office productivity suites including Access and Excel. Now they are ready to be completely re-architected or refactored using Enterprise reporting tools and/or become turnkey .NET applications.

    Migrating these applications looks easy at first glance but, when you look under the covers you usually find a different story;
     

    • Business rules are in peoples heads or embedded in the productivity tools
    • Limited documentation
    • Complex workflows
    • Handovers with separation of duties required for compliance
    • Traceability moving from step to step

    Even with all these challenges, the conversion project team along with the sponsor request more functionality in the new solution.

    Dan Galavan is a Business Intelligence Consultant specializing in solutions delivery using mainly the Microsoft BI Stack.

    Working in consultancy since 1999, Dan has modernized applications and processes across a variety of industries for example Banking, Investment, CRM, Social Protection, and Telecoms.

    He has worked as a consultant in Ireland, the U.S. and Germany. On St. Patrick’s Day 2003 Dan came face to face with Microsoft SQL Server for the first time (it’s not a national holiday in Germany for some reason). He began using computers in the heady days of the Commodore 64 with a mix of gaming and dabbling in Basic.

    Dan is a Business Intelligence Consultant for BearingPoint.
