Datapac, Ireland’s leading ICT services and solutions provider, it has delivered an integrated digital transformation solution to the National Opera House in a deal worth over €200,000.

This digital reimagining represents the latest milestone in the long relationship between the National Opera House and Datapac, who has served as the Official ICT Partner for almost two decades.

The venue recognised the need for a completely re-vamped ICT infrastructure to enhance its ability to deliver world-class experiences to guests, artists, and employees alike. It enlisted Datapac as a trusted strategic advisor who performed a detailed analysis of the current ecosystem, designed a complete roadmap, and implemented a futureproofed technology solution.

As a premier performing arts venue, a robust telephone system capable of handling high-volume traffic at peak times is pivotal for effective box office management. Datapac upgraded the existing on-premise infrastructure to a fully-managed unified communication (UC) cloud-hosted phone solution. Offering superior operational flexibility, Datapac’s solution allows the team to stay connected regardless of location and the predictable monthly per-user fee has led to significant telephony cost savings.

Datapac also provided a new and improved managed data backup and business continuity service. Powered by industry-leading Datto technology, Datapac’s solution provides automated granular data backups which significantly increase cyber-resilience should data loss or theft occur. True business continuity is achieved with the capacity to recover data locally or from the cloud within minutes, ensuring that should disaster strike the curtains don’t have to close.

To enhance IT performance and reliability, Datapac’s team of professional services engineers deployed a next generation HPE server platform, guaranteeing improved availability and enhancing security. This overhaul equips the National Opera House to better serve patrons by eradicating disruptions, increasing server uptime, and bolstering the cybersecurity position across the organisation with fully-supported server hardware.

Datapac also rolled out a completely refreshed PC and laptop hardware fleet with best-in-class HP devices running on the latest operating system, including a migration to the latest Microsoft Office 365 platform. Featuring a comprehensive suite of communications tools, including Microsoft Teams, this overhaul provides a faster, more reliable employee experience which enables effective remote and hybrid working, safe in the knowledge that all devices are securely managed and protected.

Underpinning all digital transformation efforts was the managed support provided by Datapac. From its state-of-the art Enniscorthy-based Network Operations Centre, Datapac’s team of IT Support Specialists provide full 24/7 coverage 365 days a year, delivering proactive alerting and monitoring of the environment along with speedy remediation should any issues arise.

Datapac chairman Dan Kickham said: “This fully integrated digital transformation has future proofed the National Opera House’s systems for their evolving requirements, ensuring they are prepared for whatever the future may hold. With our ongoing support and 24/7 monitoring of their systems, Datapac has provided the National Opera House with more than just a technology refresh, it has allowed for continued peace of mind in knowing that their systems are always optimised, allowing them to focus on what they do best.

“With our own roots in Wexford spanning over 40 years, having such a world-renowned venue like the National Opera House on our doorstep offers such incredible value to our staff, our customers and to the wider community. Arts, culture, and entertainment contribute immensely to regional quality of life, which has helped a Wexford-based company like Datapac attract the best talent to live and work in the region.”

“The festival operates in the premier opera and performing arts venue in the country, and so we have a duty of care to the wider public to uphold the very highest of standards,” said Randall Shannon, Director, Wexford Festival Opera. “Our mission is and always will be to encourage more people to enjoy the arts; to achieve our goal and maintain the world-class reputation of the venue, we need a world-class IT infrastructure.

“Datapac have been with us from the start as our trusted IT Partner. As we began to identify shortcomings in our IT system, they were the obvious choice to turn to. Over the course of the digital transformation Datapac truly acted as a collaborative partner; taking the time to fully understand our requirements to design and implement a solution that is not only best-in-class but best for us.”
