Colt, Europe’s leading information delivery platform, has won the European Award for Energy Efficiency in Data Centres at the Data Centre in Europe 2011 Awards. The awards ceremony which was held in London, recognised Colt as a prime example of energy efficiency innovation.

Colt challenged its data centre team to reduce global data centre power usage effectiveness (PUE) by 10% last year, resulting in increased energy efficiency improvements across its 19 data centres across Europe. To achieve the 10% reduction, the data team undertook to replace old cooling systems with energy efficient models and improved data centre airflow by upgrading racks and raised floors and optimising temperature set points.

Bernard Geoghegan , executive vice president for Colt Data Centre Services expressed his delight at the achievement of the award and reiterated Colt’s commitment to innovation. Geoghegan remarked that, “we’re delighted that our pioneering approach to managing and building data centres has been recognised by some of the industry’s most respected figures.” Geoghegan added that, “our deep operational experience and commitment to continual innovation eliminated many of the inefficiencies inherent in today’s data centres and provided significant environmental and cost benefits for our customers.”
