With “so many disruptive innovations” on the horizon for Irish businesses, it is more important than ever that decision makers “keep pace with how technology is changing”. That is the view held by Ian Cox, keynote speaker at this year’s CIO Summit in Croke Park on 14 May.

Cox, an author and former IT director at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, has been recognised as a “transformational CIO” and for Irish businesses interested in keeping their IT functions, services and platforms ahead of the game, he said the summit will offer “real insight” into creating a new model of IT for “the digital age”.

In particular, Cox said, companies with large amounts of legacy systems and “who’ve had time to build up the clutter” in a technology sense, will benefit from the event’s diverse agenda. He added though that “even those start-ups and younger companies who are still relatively ‘lean’ in this regard”, can get an invaluable window into current and future “critical business and technology issues” on 14 May.

CIOs, CTOs, IT directors, senior IT executives, IT managers and other senior business executives attending the one-day event will see a range of topics discussed, including the real life experiences of fellow CIOS on how to best manage the fact that disruptive trends such as mobility, cloud and the consumerisation of IT are converging on businesses at the same time.

Hosted by iQuest, some of the other main themes of this year’s CIO Summit include: removing barriers to becoming a hub of innovation, driving value from big data, as well as compliance concerns and cybercrime.

Other speakers set to feature on 14 May in Croke Park include Annrai O’Toole of Iona Technologies fame and current CTO of Workday who will share his insights from 20 years of innovation and James Carroll, CTO with TicToc Platforms and former head of IT with GOA Games, who will talk about how Irish businesses can “win the connected consumer”.

Also speaking will be Padraic Hamrock, head of IT Transformation at AIB Bank, Dr Mícheál Ó Foghlú, CTO with enterprise mobile application solutions innovators, FeedHenry who will discuss the opportunities presented to CIOs by the internet of things, Margaret Troy, IT Director at Omnipay and Tim Willoughby, CTO of the Local Governement Management Agency.
