Career Reboot is a careers event, hosted by Microsoft, which will provide the opportunity for those seeking a career in cloud sales to meet prospective employers and academic institutions providing dedicated training in the area.

The event will take place on Saturday 31 August from 10:00 to 15:00.

Career Reboot will bring six course providers together with 13 prospective employers. The employers in attendance are Microsoft partners who have already confirmed their willingness to provide internship positions to candidates who successfully complete one of the conversion courses. In addition to the cloud sales courses on offer, partners in attendance are also recruiting for 35 technical positions.

Microsoft employees will also be on hand on Saturday to share their experiences of a career in IT.

"The role of the sales professional has been re-invented in recent years," said Martin Cullen, Small and Medium Business Director Microsoft. "While a number of factors have contributed to this change, in the technology sector one of the key catalysts has been the growing demand from businesses for cloud services. Sales people are no longer asked to do a one off deal with a customer – they are now selling a service rather than a product and this is something that requires a significantly different approach and skill set.

"Over the past couple of years, our Microsoft partner network has highlighted that the lack of availability of people with the right skills has restricted their ability to grow their business. To help address the challenge we have worked closely with education providers to help develop curricula that will give people the skills that will enable them to walk into a job.

"I would encourage anyone interested in securing a role in a dynamic and growing industry to come to Microsoft on Saturday 31st to talk to the companies that are recruiting as well as the colleges that are providing courses," he concluded.

Microsoft is partnering with the Higher Education Authority (HEA) and a number of academic institutions funded through the government’s ICT Skills Programme (www.ictskills.ie) to assist with the design and practical running of the conversion courses. Career Reboot attendees can meet with up to 13 Microsoft partner companies to discuss available roles and they will be able to apply for the conversion courses on the day.

"The demand for Cloud sales staff," said Tom Boland, CEO of HEA, "reflects a major national skills shortage in the technical products sales and senior roles in IT B2B sales, which was identified in the National Skills Bulletin 2013 research document produced on behalf of the Expert Group on Future Skill Needs. A wide range of skills are required for Cloud services sales jobs, which means that time must be spent acquiring knowledge and gaining experience, just as one would for any other professional role.

"Working closely with Microsoft we have responded quickly to the needs of industry and are funding courses through Springboard and ICT Skills Conversion that will equip people with the skills that are in demand from industry".
