SMC Networks‘ EZ Connect SMC2635W 2.4GHz 11Mbit/s Wireless CardBus adapter offers secure 802.11b wireless connectivity.
The adapter is supplied with SMC’s EZ Installation Wizard for one-click set-up. It also includes a built-in utility program for scanning all available Wireless Access Points on the network, and high transmit power that is configurable up to 100mW to increase the signal quality within an operating range up to 350m.
The SMC2635W operates at data rates up to 11Mbit/s and auto-fallback to 5.5, 2 or 1Mbit/s, and provides a high level of security by supporting 64/128bit WEP encryption. Built-in 802.1×1 user authentication ensures that only authorised users can access the wireless network.
The adapter has user-selectable country and channel settings for travellers, and comes with profile management software that provides the ability to save multiple wireless settings for different locations or networks.
802.1x is currently supported for Windows XP only, with support for other Windows operating systems, and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) support, due to be made available by summer 2003.
