The core version (Platform Edition) is free to enterprises and independent software vendors (ISVs) on all leading platforms for development and deployment. Sun claims its modular architecture provides customers and developers with increased choice and ROI in building and deploying Sun ONE Java Web Services. The product is integrated with the new Sun ONE Studio for Java, Enterprise Edition 4.1 set of Web services tools.

Highlights of the Sun ONE Application Server 7 include: The first complete product implementation of the J2EE platform, version 1.3 and the Java WSDP. The Java WSDP is an integrated toolset that allows Java platform developers to build, test and deploy XML applications, Web applications and Web Services, providing Java standard implementations of Web services standards including WSDL, SOAP, ebXML, and UDDI.

The second offering, Standard Edition, is available now for an additional USD2,000 per CPU, adding operations management capabilities such as remote administration and monitoring for larger scale administrative domains.
