Here’s one for the hill-walkers, climbers, cyclists, tourists and outdoor enthusiasts out there.
Ordnance Survey Ireland has just launched a new interactive route planning software tool: OSi Trail Master is a DVD-based PC-compatible mapping application for the outdoor enthusiast that brings maps to life on screen and allows users to prepare their own personalised trails, whether on foot or bike.
The product range consists of five consumer DVDs that will cover selected regions of Ireland and one educational DVD.
Each consumer DVD contains approximately 8,000 square kilometres of 1:50,000 mapping, aerial photography and Digital Terrain Models and a 1/450 000 scale map of the whole country. With OSi Trail Master, users will be able to create 3D landscapes, import and export routes with a GPS, export routes, maps and aerial photography to a Pocket PC device, view trail profiles and print maps.
The system also allows users to search and locate over 1,800 place and summit names, view dynamic legends and scale bars and measure distance and area.
