Telefónica, operator of the O2 brand in Ireland, has introduced managed tablet service as part of its Joined Up Business portfolio of managed mobility solutions.

Commenting on the launch, Nicola Mortimer, head of business products portfolio, Telefónica Ireland (pictured), said: "Companies are aware of the need to capitalise on the developments of tablet computing and the ubiquity of data. However they are faced with the day-to-day challenges of running a business, acquiring budget and ensuring that their company is protected against external security threats.

"Tablets are part of the bring your own device phenomenon, which presents companies with opportunities to improve efficiency. It also creates challenges in terms of management and security. While we have not yet seen tablets take off as replacement devices to desktops and laptops in the enterprise space, we believe that it is only a matter of time."

O2 is also working on a €200 million upgrade its nationwide network to provide 4G connectivity, including a 3G upgrade in 250 locations across 14 counties.
