Finally with the release of Bluetooth 1.2, stereo audio can be transmitted over a wireless Bluetooth link. The Pulsar is the first headset that we have seen to include this wonderful functionality. The benefit of Bluetooth headphones the obvious one is music without wires. The less obvious one but all the more brilliant is the ability to pair the headphones with other Bluetooth-compatible devices so you can answer your phone while using your portable music player. What you have with Bluetooth is a personal area network for all of your Bluetooth-enabled electronics devices and now you can add your stereo headphones to that collection.
Look and feel-wise, this is a quality set of headphones but it is quite heavy at 97g. The controls for the headset are located on the right side of the unit and include controls for skipping tracks forwards and backwards, for controlling volume and accepting, muting or hanging up on a call. Also included with the headset is a charging base that is used by flipping the headphones around and plugging them into the two holes on the base unit.
The headset can be used with any music player, Bluetooth mobile phones or laptop. Unfortunately, the included Bluetooth adapter does not offer any microphone input jack to transmit your mic signal and so you can’t use this headset with Skype for example.
On the upside, pairing the headset with a mobile phone is easy.
When listening to music, you are notified via a tone and the music stops when a call comes in. Press a button on the right headphone to accept and when the call ends, the music stream resumes.
Battery-wise, on a full charge, you get approximately 11 hours of audio playback and it takes about 2 hours to get it back to full charge.
Verdict: 5 stars
A fine first generation Bluetooth stereo headset.
