
Motorola unfolds Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra
After multiple leaks online Motorola has officially announced its next generation of folding smartphones: the Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra, featuring Google’s AI system Gemini.
The Motorola Razr already has a long history, but since 2020 it has also been the name Motorola uses for its foldable smartphones. Meanwhile, it is already time for the fifth series of these, and it was aptly named Razr 50. This series consists of two models, with the UItra being slightly more upmarket.
One of the interesting novelties with the Motorola Razr 50 is the large screen on the front.
This measures 3.6″ on the regular model and even 4″ on the Ultra. With that, it encompasses the entire size of the closed smartphone. If you unfold the device, you get a 6.9″ pOLED display at your disposal.
Motorola also cites the Razr 50’s battery as one of its strengths.
For the regular model, this is a 4,200mAh battery that you can charge at 30W. For the Ultra, it is ‘only’ about 4,000mAh, although that model can charge at 45W. Both devices can also offer wireless charging. The Razr 50 Ultra also features standby charging, allowing you to charge other smartphones with it.
The camera a thorough upgrade with this series of foldables.
Both models have a 50MP main camera. With the Ultra, there is additionally a 50MP telephoto lens, while the regular Razr 50 has a 13MP wide-angle lens. When taking photos and videos from the Motorola Razr 50 series, you can also take advantage of a lot of additional features that have artificial intelligence support.
AI is also very present in other areas of the Motorola Razr 50 and Razr 50 Ultra. Gemini can launch with the power button even when the smartphone is folded. Motorola’s the Moto AI will be added, though no date has been given for release.
An interesting AI feature on the Razr 50 is the ‘catch me up’ function, where the device shows you a summary of all notifications.
The Motorola Razr 50 ultra goes on sale from 25 June for €1,199.99. You can choose between midnight blue, spring green, hot pink and peach fuzz.
The Motorola Razr 50 will follow on 1 July and will cost €899.99. This model is available in beach sand, koala grey and spritz orange.
