Irish consumers will have a new mobile operator to choose from today with the arrival of iD.

A mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) owned by retailer Dixons Carphone on the Three network, iD offers the ability for consumers to build their own price plans by choosing their own allowance of talk time (to a maximum of 5,000 minutes), texts (up to 100) and data (up to 20Gb) at no extra cost and without recontracting.

4G connectivity will be available to all customers.

ID is first mobile operator to the Irish market with a bill format that splits out the cost of the handset from the monthly tariff. This allows customers to track how much is outstanding on the cost of the handset over the contract period. Once the full cost of the handset has been paid, this cost is taken from the monthly bill, leaving only the monthly tariff to be paid.

Hamish White, general manager, iD, said: “When it comes to mobile plans, we know that one size doesn’t fit all. At iD, we are giving customers a completely personalised experience. They are getting a network that treats them like an individual, and gives them maximum control and flexibility. Customers can choose plans that adapt and change with their needs. Most importantly, our plans are completely transparent – we give customers everything they want, and nothing that they don’t want.”

ID is the first of two MVNOs to come to market under the terms of Three’s acquisition of O2. UPC will be bringing its own service to market, though no launch date has been confirmed.
