The Dublin Web Summit is to mark its third anniversary with the addition of a luncheon event for women in technology. Sponsored by Microsoft and CPL the inaugural Leaders’ Lunch is expected to bring together influential women in working in technology to discuss and explore the opportunities, challenges experienced by women across the sector.
This year over 3,500 delegates and 200 speakers are expected to attend the event, which will be held be held in the RDS on 17-18 October.
Orla Sheridan, director of consumer business, Microsoft Ireland, said: "At Microsoft we continue to be concerned about the number of young people who are selecting science, technology and engineering courses at third level – and particularly at the low level of females who are attracted to the area. We run a wide range of programmes and initiatives at primary, secondary and third level to inspire young people to consider a career in technology."
Cpl CEO Anne Heraty said: "With demand for skilled IT graduates at an all-time high, Ireland has attracted some of the biggest names in the consumer devices industry, from HP, Apple, Microsoft and Google. These multinational tech giants select Ireland for its well-educated and highly skilled workforce. The country remains at the cutting edge of industries like R&D, cloud computing and social media, with Facebook and Twitter choosing Dublin as the location of its European Headquarters."
Dublin Web Summit founder Paddy Cosgrave said: "As the summit continues to grow, the focus of one of our key summit elements for 2012 is women in business. Now more than ever there are incredible female entrepreneurs in tech, and that number is growing and growing fast, in particular at an early stage and we’re happy to be showcasing so many of them at the Web Summit this year."
