The Irish Internet Association (IIA) is running the first event in its new Internet debate series in the Hilton Hotel, Charlemont Place, Dublin 2, on Thursday 30 March. Entitled ‘The Internet is crap and will not survive!,’ it’s intended to be a fun and social event. The association is now looking for speakers, participants and hecklers.

Other topics planned for future debates include “Credit cards should never, ever be used online”, “Search engines will never catch on,” “Your company does NOT need a website,” “Blogging is only for geeks” and “Pod-casting should be made illegal.” According to the IIA, the debates will all take place after work “with speakers and attendees expected to socialise over a drink after the battles have been won or lost.” There’ll be a nominal charge of €5 for IIA members and €10 for non-members to cover costs.
