If you don’t fancy waiting on a taxi queue for an hour with the rest of Dublin’s nightowls, get yourself mobile with your mobile. A new service called E-taxi lets you order taxis using the SMS function on your mobile phone. You can text yourself a ride home from the comfort of your bar room stool as you sip your last pint and chaser.
The new system, developed by Bellstream, will put a user in touch with the cab nearest to them if they send the company a text message headed with the word ‘taxi’. This system hopes to eliminate costly phone calls, radio systems and lengthy delays in ordering and waiting for a taxi.
E-taxi is introducing a fleet of 1,000 new Mercedes Benz cars in association with City Cabs in Dublin over the next few months. The company’s future plans include increasing the fleet number to 5,000 and it expects to offer other services such as mobile phone top-up services and credit card payment systems.
