Guardian 4400 Network Attached Storage (NAS) server from Quantum offers maximum RAID 5 transfer rates of 160Mbit/s, hot swappable drives, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports and two capacity points, 480 and 640Gbyte, in a high-density 1U (rack unit) design.

Features include cross-platform file sharing, seamless integration with popular management tools, extensive backup software support and hardware redundancy.

Quantum has also introduced Version 2.1 of its Operating System which now has Backup Express for Guardian software, an embedded software application that allows users to complete a variety of backups within the backup window while reducing network traffic by backing up Guardian servers directly to a SCSI-attached tape drive or tape library.

The Guardian 4400 has a number of OS-powered performance enhancements such as cross-platform file sharing support for Windows, Unix, Linux and Macintosh clients. The device has front loading, hot swappable disk drives and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports with load balancing and failover.

It offers embedded fast backup to a SCSI-attached tape drive or library via Backup Express for Guardian. Server-to-Server (S2S) Synchronisation software is also supplied with the unit.
