Google launches four new phones in Pixel 11 line
Google has unveiled four new phones during the annual Made by Google event in New York: the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. The Pixel Watch 5 will be released at the same time. The devices feature stronger, brighter displays and time-saving AI thanks to the new Google Tensor G6 processor.
According to Google, the series combines a strong hardware design with AI integration powered by a new AI chip and Gemini. The familiar camera bar is thinner and has edge-to-edge glass, but remains unmistakably a Pixel phone.
The Pixel series runs on the new Google Tensor G6 chip. It delivers up to 20% better energy efficiency, 25% faster browsing and 15% faster app load times.
Google is also introducing the ‘HiLight’ feature exclusively for the Pro models. An LED light in the camera bar on the back provides visual colour signals, for example for incoming calls from a partner. The light pulses during Gemini interactions when the phone is lying face down.
The camera on the Pro models gets a revamped telephoto lens with up to 120x Professional Zoom and 8K Video Boost.
Buyers of the Pro models receive a Google AI Pro subscription for six months.
The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is Google’s thinnest and most robust foldable smartphone to date. The device is roughly 1mm thinner, almost 10% lighter and up to three times stronger than its predecessor. Efficient multitasking is enabled by using split-screen view and the phone’s 16GB of RAM.
With the ‘bubbles’ feature, apps such as the browser, calendar or Gemini float as bubbles over the main screen. This gives users easy on-the-go access to various apps without significantly disrupting their workflow.
Pixel Watch 5
A Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated chip powers the new Pixel Watch 5. This guarantees 20 percent faster performance, up to 30 to 40 hours of battery life depending on the model, and ultra-fast charging. Users can operate the watch completely hands-free via ‘Raise to Talk’ and simple hand gestures.
New sensors record long-term trends in blood pressure and insulin. Sleep features such as ‘sleep breathing quality’ and ‘smart wake alarms’ wake the user at the optimal moment in the sleep cycle.
Pixel Tag
Google has also announced the Pixel Tag. It is a tracker that uses Google’s Find Hub and will be released later this year. The Pixel Tag is intended to help locate keys, bags and other items.
The tracker has a pill-shaped design and measures approximately 4.6 by 2.8cm. The device is 5.4mm thick. On the front there is a metal plate with the Google logo and an opening for the speaker. The back is made of plastic and has a round opening through which the CR2032 button cell can be replaced. According to Google, the battery lasts for more than a year.
Google says the design is resistant to bending and cracking. With a button on the tracker, users can make their phone ring. In addition, there are so-called ‘left behind’ notifications that warn you when you leave an item somewhere.
Inside are, among other things, an accelerometer, speaker, Bluetooth and Ultra Wideband (UWB). The latter technology is used for precision finding. In this mode, the user receives visual cues about the distance and direction of the tracker. According to Google, this works at distances of up to 50 metres.
The Pixel Tag works with Android 9 and newer. Pairing is simple: after removing the protective tab from the battery, the tracker only needs to be held next to the smartphone.
The casing is made of polycarbonate and metal. For the time being, Google is only releasing the Pixel Tag in the colour Fog. The tracker has an IP67 rating and is therefore protected against dust and water. According to the specifications, it can be submerged in water at a depth of one metre for up to 30 minutes.
Pixel Buds Pro 2
Google also revealed the latest in its line of Buds true wireless headphones with the Buds Pro 2. This year’s model boasts improved noise cancellation, up to 30 hours listening time between the buds and the case combines, and improved noise cancellation as powered by a Tensor A1 chip. There will also be Gemini connectivity for some AI guidance.
