A business plan for an Internet car brokerage service, Carzii.ie, has scooped the top award of €3,000 at the inaugural Student Synergy Awards.

ITT Dublin students Simon Berry Byrne and Paul Connolly won the award after impressing the judges with their business plan for an intermediary brokerage service between car dealerships, garages and potential customers.

Runners up in the competition included business plans for a mountain bike tourism company, an eye care product and a portable device which makes the assembly of nets onto goalposts more efficient.

The Student Synergy Awards were organised by The Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT Dublin) and the South Dublin County Enterprise Board to foster creativity and innovation in budding entrepreneurs among the entire student body at the institution.

Students from ITT Dublin were invited to come up with inventive business ideas and to devise a business plan outlining the development process for their proposed product or service.

An expert panel, made up of representatives from ITT Dublin, The South Dublin County Enterprise Board, Cruickshank Intellectual Property Attorneys and

external industry experts, provided feedback and support to students throughout the competition process.

Praising the high standard of competition entrants, Nicola Mountford, manager of the Synergy Centre at ITT Dublin said, “The inaugural Student Synergy Awards were a tremendous success. We had entries suggesting products and services to target every industry, from health, tourism and leisure industries to technology, pharmaceuticals and consumer services. On behalf of everyone at ITT Dublin.”

The winning entries from the ITT Dublin Student Synergy Awards will progress to the Enterprise Ireland’s National Student Enterprise Awards to compete for the chance to win further cash prizes for their innovative business plans.
