Associated Hardware Limited (AHL) has become the first retail customer to sign up for the Wavin Exchange, a new e-commerce project from Wavin, a supplier and manufacturers of plastic pipe and fittings.
Wavin has invested more than €500,000 in the development of the electronic trading site, which will allow customers to order directly from an online catalogue of more than 3,500 products with 58 alternatives in terms of size and colour. According to AHL business development manager, Clive Schorman, all that is needed to log onto the Wavin exchange is an Internet connection, whereupon customers can access information on pricing and product specifications as well as track orders already placed.
‘The biggest benefit will be for easy access to information and the convenience of being able to order at any time of the day,’ said Schorman. AHL represents 60 independent members who trade under the Homevalue Hardware brand. They are the first builders merchants to have access to this 24/7 service. Stores in Wicklow and Cork were the first to go live, with the rest to link to the system before the end of the year.
Catherine Shiels, CEO of AHL said, ‘The flexibility it will give our members will be invaluable. Orders can be place in real time when it suits the retailer and there is an obvious cost saving in paperwork and the time and cost of follow-up telephone calls.’
