A new Apple iPhone app aims to set a new pace for keep-fit fanatics addicted to the treadmill.

The Fun Run Trainer lets the user run, jog or walk on a virtual treadmill – with a real time video map and inclination settings. Apple touts it as the app the may change forever the way people use a treadmill.

Its creator, Australian Brett Galbraith, notes: “Treadmills are by far the most popular piece of exercising equipment anywhere in the world, yet there has been no easy way to create your own routes or to practice for popular events on all treadmills – until now.”

“We have tried hard to make our application appeal to all sorts of treadmills users. For those who want to go for a casual walk we have a number of world famous beaches for them to walk along. We have also included some of the world’s most famous streets like Wall Street, Fleet Street, Paseo de la Reforma and the Champs-Elysees.”

Fun Run Trainer has a limitless capacity, as the user can create their own routes for anywhere in the world and then sync them to their iPhone at the press of a button.

Galbraith enthuses: “The quality of the real-time satellite image is amazing, whether you are running at 12 km/h or keeping up with the peloton at 80 km/h on your exercise bike. We will also be adding a number of premium cycling events in the near future, including the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia.”

For those that like listening to music or audio books while exercising, Fun Run Trainer offers full iPod integration.
