Acer has unveiled its first Aspire One netbook featuring the Android operating system. Previously only available on select mobile phones, Android is expected to provide faster connection to the Internet over the current bespoke Linux option.

Android is a free, open source, and fully customisable platform. Its range of features includes an operating system, middleware, and mobile applications. Third-party developers can customize and integrate Android applications, bringing true add-on value to benefit the end-users.

Acer plans to launch its first Aspire One netbooks with Android in the third quarter of 2009.
