Ex-Softech Telecom duo Henry Woods and Paschal McEvoy have set up a new company specialising in business solutions based on voice recognition technology and interactive voice response systems.

Known as Sedilla Technology Ltd, the new company is the result of a technology transfer deal with Belfast-based Bluechip Technology, of which Woods is chairman.

Woods was previously the CEO of Softech Telecom (now Soft-ex), while McEvoy served as sales director.

Sedilla’s new speech-driven product, Automated Switchboard Control (ASC), is aimed at the small to medium business and uses voice recognition technology which it says ensures that all calls are answered on the first ring – 24 hours a day and 365 days a year – without the need for a receptionist.

ASC allows callers to ask for a specific person or department by name and one number gets through to all the extensions of a company.

The company points to a recent study by AT&T which found that as many as 68% of business calls are not completed on the first attempt. In contrast, Sedilla said that ASC answers all calls, thereby helping to increase a company’s revenue.

Sedilla will market ASC, both directly and through channels, to Irish and UK customers. To date its partners include Siemens, Soft-ex, Nextira One, Diacom and Cable & Wireless. Others will be announced later.

Sedilla’s ASC clients include Cable & Wireless, Siemens, the Automobile Association, Glanbia, Nextira One, Kildare County Council, the Galway Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT).

The company is currently working on a number of new voice related products for the mobile market which it expects to release during the summer.
