Siemens Business Service has been awarded a contract by the Department of Justice to roll out an automated Visa application and tracking system for foreign nationals seeking to enter Ireland.

With a huge increase in Irish visa applications in recent years, Siemens has developed a streamlined electronic visa application system for the first time. The new system allows a much faster and more efficient processing of all types of visas, with a better detection rate, Siemens said.

The IT system has the capability to be easily integrated with the required government departments and agencies and EU systems.

Derek Wilson, MD of Siemens Business Services said the company was delighted to win what he described as a “competitive, EU open tender”. He said the new system can streamline and fast track visas electronically, whereas in the past it was done by a paper trail only.

The new system can handle the ever-increasing amount of visa applications which is a vital element of the new system, he added.
