SAP has joined forces with Xamarin to make it easier for developers to integrate their apps with the company’s Mobile Platform.

Xamarin’s platform lets developers use C# to build native applications for iOS, Android, Mac and Windows, and share on average 75% of the source code across the different operating systems, it said.

The deal with SAP aims to make it easier for enterprise developers to integrate SAP mobile solutions as well as other back-end data sources with their cross-platform applications, Xamarin said.

“That information is the crown jewel within many enterprises. If you are going to create compelling applications, I think you want to leverage that information,” said Mark Gaydos, senior vice president of marketing at Xamarin.

To make life easier for developers, the two companies have released a combined Xamarin and SAP Mobile Platform Software Development Kit (SDK).

To help developers check if their applications are working, Xamarin’s Test Cloud will get built-in data verification capabilities to ensure apps are correctly capturing and synchronising data with SAP systems, according to Xamarin.

The company is also expanding its University program to include a course for mobile developers who want to learn more about how to connect their apps with the SAP Mobile Platform. There is also a certification program for consultants working with either company.

This isn’t the first time Xamarin has joined forces with a large enterprise software vendor. The company announced a partnership with Microsoft last November in conjunction with the launch of Visual Studio 2013.

The most important part of that deal is a technical collaboration that integrates Xamarin’s technology with Microsoft’s developer tools and services, including Visual Studio 2013.

The plan is to establish more partnerships with large software vendors, according to Gaydos.
