Mobile operator O2 has launched a new product for small businesses that aims to remove all paper from the sales order, delivery and service process. The new service, O2 Instant, allows company sales and delivery representatives to capture signatures and sales orders
via handheld devices without the need to create a paper record.

The information is then transferred back over the O2 mobile network directly to the businesses’ back office system.
‘O2 Instant is designed for easier integration with the most popular back office business accounting packages such as those from Sage and Pegasus. It is aimed those users out on the road executing transactions,’ says Orlagh Nevin, head of business solutions, O2.

Two types of handheld devices are available for the service — the Panasonic P1 and the XDA II. The P1 is a rugged and robust handheld computer with a built-in barcode scanner is designed for industrial usage. The XDA is more suited for the sales executive.
Both run the Microsoft Pocket PC operating system and data is transmitted wirelessly over O2’s GPRS network. Companies are charged for the service on a per transaction basis — 75 cent (excl VAT) per transaction. The transactions in turn are sold in bundles.
