Nine speakers to take part in TEDxUCD 2014 tomorrow

Nine national and international speakers will take part in University College Dublin’s TEDxUCD 2014 event. TEDxUCD 2014 takes place on 14 June in the UCD Dramsoc Theatre in the UCD Student Centre. The event is organised and managed by the UCD Innovation team, based at NovaUCD.

Working under this year’s theme of ‘Enlighten’, a the event will bring together live speakers and a selection of TEDTalks videos for an audience of 100 attendees.

UCD graduates presenting include Emmy Award winning war correspondent and current president and CEO of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council Dr Terry McCarthy; Barry Andrews, CEO of GOAL; and Dr Erin Baumann, a lecturer in UCD’s School of Politics and International Relations.

Speaking in advance of her talk, Dr Baumann said: “As a UCD staff member I am thrilled to be involved in this year’s TEDxUCD event. It is a fantastic platform for engagement with the University and its diverse community. I look forward to sharing my thoughts and ideas on innovation in higher education and teaching with the audience and to the opportunity to listen to the reflections of the other guest speakers.”

Prof Orla Feely, UCD vice president for research, innovation and impact, said: “Organising and running TEDxUCD is an example of how we share the knowledge, expertise and ideas emanating from our University with a wider community both in Ireland and across the globe.”

The TEDxUCD 2014 event will also be live streamed at http://new.livestream.com/tedx/TEDxUCD2014 from 10am-4pm and can be followed at via twitter @TEDxUCD and the event hashtag #TEDxUCD.
