InterTradeIreland, the cross-border trade and development body, is to provide EUR13.6 million to a new all-island project which will create 130 technology transfer partnerships.
Known as Fusion, the initiative will develop and support three-way partnerships between companies with specific technology needs, research centres with specialist expertise, and high calibre science and technology graduates.
Fifty seven partnerships have already been formed as part of a pilot scheme, which to date has generated EUR5.6 million of benefits for the companies involved. Each Fusion scheme can last up to 24-months and the first of the new partnerships will commence in Spring 2004.
Commenting on the roll-out of the project, Liam Nellis, CEO of InterTradeIreland said: ‘from Coleraine to Cork and Dublin to Galway, Fusion has been helping businesses access research expertise that was previously unavailable to them. Technology transfer is essential for a modern, competitive economy and Fusion will continue to help the business community harness the renowned intellectual capital which resides in the island’s research and academic communities’.
