Apple sold over four million units of the iPhone 4S in the three days after its launch on 14 October. In addition, the company announced that more than 25 million customers are already using the iOS 5 mobile operating system in the first five days of its release. The company also claims that more than 20 million customers have signed up for iCloud, its set of free cloud services that automatically and wirelessly store content in iCloud and push it to your devices.

"iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than four million sold in its first weekendthe most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days," said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever."

While this is great news for Apple, it is possible the iPhone 4S could become a victim of its own success. Apple is already implementing a reservation-only policy in its stores ensuring no handset will be left behind on the shelves.

The iPhone 4S goes on sale in Ireland on 28 October.
