The O’Callaghan Hotel Group is also claiming to be the only hotel group to be managing this work internally, without the services of a consultancy.

‘The installation of both wired and wireless LAN in all guest bedrooms and function rooms was a decision made to offer customers additional choice,’ said Gerry Colreavy, the group’s IT director. ‘However, it also meant that a consultancy would have found the project economically unattractive, which is why we’ve undertaken to do it ourselves.’

The system was installed by Computer Technical Services, who will also provide the maintenance support service. However, all hotel staff, including waiters and porters, in the lobby, restaurant and function areas will be trained to competently help guests with the system.

Clients will be able to access their company VPNs with full security from a HP secure server. To boost security, the hotel also installed Nomadix HSG Gateway and content filtering. The facility will be priced at EUR10 for 12 hours use and EUR15 for 24 hours.
Guests using the system will be given a username and password. Depending on the guest’s laptop, a small configuration with the system may be required. In the unlikely event that a customer laptop is incompatible with the system, the O’Callaghan Hotel Group has some laptops available at reception for the use of in-house guests.
