Google’s new tool creates simple videos with AI
Google has announced a new feature being trialled in Workspace Labs from June that uses AI to create short videos for presentations.
Google Workspace currently has three pillars under which all its tools fall. They are Documents, Spreadsheets and Presentations. To these now comes a fourth pillar in Vids, which Google describes as “all-in-one app for creating videos,” but what is it really?
In practice, Google Vids currently seems to be mostly an upgrade from Presentations.
To start creating a Google Vids, you first select all the documents, images and spreadsheets you want to put into your video.
Then you choose a style and put everything in the right order. From Google’s stock database, you can additionally add lots of photos and videos.
Then you select a voice as your voice-over and let it provide additional explanation. Of course, you can also simply record the voice-over yourself. And finally, you can also record videos to add to your Vids. These can be played in between, before or after the documents, figures and/or photos, or you can keep showing them in a corner of your video.
Google claims in its announcement that Google Vids uses artificial intelligence (AI), although for now it is not entirely clear in what way it will be used.
Google Vids will be added to Workspace Labs in June, after which it can be tested. When the feature will be complete and available to everyone is yet to be confirmed.
