Eur 6m deal cuts electricity costs and emissions

Renewable energy supplier Airtricity has signed a contract worth over Eur 6 million with data centre owner and operator Citadel100.

Airtricity will supply green electricity to Citadel100’s 60,000 sq ft data centre at Dublin’s Citywest Business Park, which expects its energy consumption to more than double in the next five years.

Citadel says that, by switching to Airtricity, it will significantly cut its operating costs and its carbon footprint. The saving in CO2 emissions will be 30,000t annually, equivalent of taking 5,500 cars off Ireland’s roads.

Citadel100 chairman Noel Meaney said energy consumption was a key consideration for the business. “It was an obvious move to opt for Airtricity given their green credentials, but it also offers competitive business rates allowing us to pass those savings onto our customers.”

Airtricity MD Kevin Greenhorn noted:”There are plenty of things for people to be anxious about at the moment; we believe the price you pay for your electricity and worrying about your carbon footprint should not be among them.”
