Microsoft has highlighted the critical role that Ireland’s students will play in ensuring Ireland’s future economic success.
Speaking at the launch of the DreamSpark initiative, Paul Rellis, managing director of Microsoft Ireland highlighted the importance of Ireland becoming a true Innovation Economy if we are to return to a period of positive economic growth. In order to achieve this goal there is a need to invest in the people that will be at the heart of that economy – this includes both small business owners and students.
Commenting, Rellis said, “Ireland’s future economic success lies in us successfully embracing the Smart Economy strategy and turning Ireland into a true Innovation Economy. However, we need to look at the practical measures that need to be put in place to ensure that the objectives and targets set out in that report can be met.
“Critical to that is investing in the young people who are currently in second and third level education ensuring that they are given all possible opportunities to develop and grow the skills that will be needed not only to participate in an Innovation Economy but to determine its shape and structure. DreamSpark will help to ensure that we have the right foundation in place for the Innovation Economy.
“By giving students free access to software and tools that previously have been out of reach of the student community we are ensuring that students will have a higher level of skill and ability when they enter into the workforce.”
