The XSR-3000 and XSR-4000 security routers from Enterasys are designed for use in large branch and regional offices, and integrate wide-area network (WAN), virtual private networking (VPN) and firewalling technologies in a single platform.

Enterprises that are increasingly geographically dispersed, with critical information and key personnel located at remote offices, have the problem of a greatly increased security threat profile for the entire organisation. The best practice approach to protecting remote IT resources is a defence-in-depth strategy, with distributed security at every remote office. A comprehensive security router integrates routing and security into a powerful device for branch offices with a single, consistent management interface.

The XSR-3000 and XSR-4000 combine high performance and configuration flexibility to accommodate changing networking requirements. The standards-based XSR series fits easily into existing multivendor networks and minimises retraining requirements. Additionally, its support for popular network management systems and Enterasys’ NetSight Atlas management applications enables remote monitoring, an important capability for deployments at remote offices, which typically have limited on-site networking expertise.

Each XSR product, including the XSR-1805 and 1850, offers comprehensive IP routing and WAN interfaces, providing high-availability wide area networking with the Quality-of-Service (QoS) and policy routing features to deliver optimal performance for priority-sensitive applications. Additionally, its extranet, site-to-site and remote-access VPN technologies enable secure and ubiquitous employee access across the Internet. Policy-managed stateful-inspection firewalling protects intellectual property from unauthorised access and attack. All security options are remotely upgradeable, reducing the total cost of ownership when enhancing the capabilities of the XSR security router.

Enterasys has also brought out two new WAN network interface modules (NIM) for the entire XSR series: an ADSL NIM and a T3/E3 NIM that supports fractional connections.
