EMC’s Irish channel gains Velocity

The programme is designed to help EMC and its channel partners to work more closely and better address new and underserved markets. The vendor will appoint Velocity Resellers, Velocity Partners and Premier Velocity Partners to differentiate the support it offers to resellers. Worldwide, the company generates around 40 percent of its revenues through the indirect channel.

According to EMC’s Ireland channel manager, Tom Houston, Velocity will help to further formalise the relationship the company has developed with its select number of Irish business partners over the past few years.

He said the company wanted to push more into the mid-market from corporates through closer relationships with VARs and therefore would give them access to its complete range of products. For qualified Velocity Partners this will include access to its Authorized Services Network and EMC intellectual property, training, mentoring and licensed service delivery methodologies for a range of CLARiiON-based SAN and NAS professional services.

However, there are no plans to recruit large numbers of extra resellers but new or existing partners will be appointed to cover geographical regions, applications and vertical markets.  The company recently signed up Plannet 21 and has a further two or three slots open, according to Houston.  He added that EMC had spoken to a number of resellers but had deemed them unsuitable. ‘We’re looking for companies who have a track record of looking after customers and providing value,’ he said.
