Officially launched in October by An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern at St Patrick’s College in Drumcondra, the project will be funded by the global financial services company Citigroup Foundation via the Ireland Funds. The full grant amount from the foundation is $250,000 and will be paid over two years to St Patrick’s College.
The project is based on a successful model programme developed in 1998 by the Teachers Network — a New York-based not for profit organisation.
St Patrick’s College will host the project in Ireland and will work closely with the Teachers Network to successfully support teaching in the classroom with technology.
Teams of teachers design, digitise and publish IT-based curriculum which is then disseminated to other teachers within their schools, across Ireland and around the world via the Internet. Resources are available online for use by teachers in the classroom in Ireland and around the world at www.teachnet.ie.
