CarTrawler tops list at ISA Awards

Dublin-based CarTrawler received the award for software company of the year at the Irish Software Association’s Irish Software Awards held at the Double Tree Hotel in Dublin on Friday 21 November.

The awards brought together some 500 business leaders from the ICT and software sector to recognise the innovation and achievements of Irish software companies.

Hailo co-founder Jay Bregman was the keynote speaker, and addressed how Irish SMEs can grow and scale internationally.

CarTrawler connects some of the biggest brands in the travel industry with over 1,200 car rental agents at 30,000 locations across 174 countries. It has offices in London, and Boston with its head office in Dublin, where nearly 300 people are employed. CarTrawler recently announced the creation of 400 new jobs over the next three years in Dublin and have begun the first phase of 200 hires, including senior roles in business development, customer operations, data science, finance and engineering.

Founding partner of the venture capital firm, Frontline Ventures, Shay Garvey was named ISA person of the year. He is an experienced early stage technology investor and has raised funds in excess of a quarter of a billion euro, investing in 25 early stage tech companies over a number of cycles. Previously, he worked with Exxon, Corning and McKinsey and served on the boards of the Irish Venture Capital Association, the Trinity College Science Gallery and the European Leadership Council of the Harvard Business School.

Other award winners on the night were Brite:Bill, Fenergo, S3 Group, Asavie Technologies, Realex Payments, Intel Ireland, TSSG/FeedHenry.

Addressing the event ISA Chair and Trilogy Technologies Group MD Edel Creely said: “We need to create an environment that supports companies grow and expand internationally. Ireland’s indigenous software sector has 730 companies, employing more than 12,000 people, with sales in excess of €1.9 billion every year. We are a small country but with big ambitions.”
