AXA Insurance is using Crannog Software’s NetWatch network-management tool to monitor all local and wide area links on its network. The project was implemented by LAN Communications and enables AXA to monitor its network more efficiently and troubleshoot problems as well improving its bandwidth capacity planning.

The AXA network supports approximately 1,000 users, so it needed a scalable tool that would let its helpdesk to be more proactive in the provision of services and solving of problems. Using NetWatch’s Web-based graphical user interface and associated drop-down menus, staff with minimum networking knowledge are able to  identify network outages and troubleshoot links or devices which further reduces the overhead on helpdesk staff.

According to Trevor Knott, network engineer with AXA, it evaluated a number of network management applications but NetWatch was chosen for its functions, total cost of ownership and price. ‘NetWatch provided us with the capability to customise the application according to our specific requirements, with little software development work,’ he says.

AXA is also using the new NetFlow Monitor tool from Crannog which uses Cisco’s NetFlow protocol to monitor the performance of Cisco routers and switches. Crannog has recently been awarded the Cisco Systems Service Provider Ecosystem Partner accreditation for interoperability with NetFlow. NetFlow Monitor integrates with NetWatch and enable’s AXA’s IT staff to analyse IP traffic patterns by user or by application.
