One of the key issues up for discussion at the third AGM of the Association of Information Managers in Ireland (AIM Ireland) was the group’s recent decision to develop a strategic view on IT aspects of the National Development Plan. This forms part of an ongoing campaign to raise awareness of the association. In an address by the board, the AGM heard about the findings of an investigation on the NDP. Group breakout sessions were then held to elicit members’ views and comments.
“Three specific themes were highlighted as possible issues to become vocal about,” said Margaret Maher, AIM Ireland’s project development manager. The board will now team up with Drury Communications, which is working with the association on its PR campaign, to draft these issues into a document for review by members before issuing a mandate for submission to the NDP.
In presenting the directors’ report, outgoing director, Karen Forte highlighted the great opportunity for AIM Ireland to be invited to endorse and participate in the Intel and National University of Ireland Maynooth joint venture to create the Innovation Value Institute (IVI).
In the board elections, last year’s vice president, John Gannon, was elected president for the coming year, while Conor Farrell continues in the position of secretary/treasurer. The other board members are David Scott and Rory Donnelly. John Gannon urged members to consider filling the vacant positions on the board.
