Arnotts, in partnership with AIB Merchant Services and Visa Europe, has become the first department store in Ireland to offer contactless payments. Almost 200 terminals have been installed allowing for transactions of €15 or less by simply touching their contactless Visa card to the terminal without the need to enter a PIN code.

Helen Duffy, IT director, Arnotts, said: "We are delighted to be the first department store in Ireland to introduce contactless payments. We process up to a million credit/debit card transactions and approximately 3 million cash transactions in a year. We believe contactless payments will significantly speed up the purchase process for our customers and our sales team."

Retailers who have begun to install contactless technology in Ireland include Insomnia, Boots, Centra, Spar, Eurospar and Mace.
