The National College of Ireland (NCI) has urged jobseekers to consider retraining to close the skills gap in the ICT sector, with the announcement of two free Higher Diploma programmes in the areas of web technologies and software development.

The courses are being offered under the Higher Education Authority (HEA) ICT Skills Initiative.

NCI is offering up to 100 free college places under the scheme, which is aimed at unemployed graduates seeking to convert their skills and experience to a career in information and communications technology. It will allow people to gain the skills and qualifications required to avail of the very real opportunities available in Ireland’s fast-growing and vibrant IT sector.

"NCI is delighted to be chosen by the HEA as a provider under the HEA ICT Skills initiative for these two Higher Diplomas," said Deirdre Giblin, head of Professional Education and Training, NCI. "Over the last few years NCI has worked very successfully with the relevant government departments and agencies to design, develop and deliver programmes that directly address current and future skills needs.

NCI is holding an Information Evening on the available courses on Wednesday 8 February from 16:00-18:00 at its IFSC campus in Dublin.
