UPC has expanded its Horizon TV service to include new HD channels, applications and a new set-top box and remote control.
Launched last April, UPC Horizon TV provides in-home access to 45 channels on PCs, laptops, mobiles and tablets.
The upgraded service adds 19 high definition channels at no extra cost and the ability to record four programmes at once (while watching a fifth).
The new set-top box can transmit to any compatible device within the home and has native access to domestic catch-up players, can manage TV, 100 Mb/s broadband and phone services, and can record up to 320 hours of content. It also comes pre-loaded with 27 sample apps, including YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, the Irish Times, and Score.ie.
The upgrade should find favour with UPC customers who may not be interested in paying extra for a smart TV, the lack of remote access beyond the home – as per Sky – may stymie widespread adoption.
Horizon TV will be charged at a rate of €73 per month.
