UPC’s fourth quarter results have revealed a further increase in broadband and phone subscriptions to 988,700 before passing the 1 million mark earlier this year.

The company’s Q4 financials also showed a growth of 99,300 across phone, broadband and TV services. Year-on-year figures showed broadband subscription were up 18% to 304,300; home phone subscriptions were up 46% to 238,000. Despite the addition of 23 additional channels thanks to a carrier deal with Sky, digital TV subscriptions were down slightly from 384,000 to 383,200.

UPC has invested over €500 million as part of the roll-out of its new fibre powered network across Ireland and now offers 150Mb/s broadband speeds to 40% of Irish homes with a minimum offering of 50Mb/s.

Last year UPC began offering an on-demand service with movies and a selection of TV series from UK broadcasters.

Dana Strong, CEO of UPC Ireland (pictured), said this year would see an increasing focus on its business offering: "We are also making strong progress in the business community. UPC Business ended the year as an increasingly important and growing contributor to the company. If you consider that over 90% of all businesses in Ireland are SMEs, we believe we have a real opportunity to help these businesses underpin their growth with reliable and affordable superfast digital services."
